Okay, it’s truth time. As much as I post baby smiles and write about nice things, my reality isn’t always as bright. I’ve had more sleepless nights than restful, anxiety attacks that come out of nowhere, and I burst into tears almost every other day. I’ve been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder and PTSD. None of it related to motherhood but rather my day job. I can’t even begin to describe the amount of shame I feel about it or the amount of time I waste believing that other people have it worse and I’m just weak. It’s something I wouldn’t wish on my worse enemies. A lot of people in my life dismiss what I go through because I hide a lot of things. I hide the sadness behind smiles. I hide at home when days are bad and only come out when I’ve composed myself. Sometimes the hand we are dealt sucks, so every day I make a pot of tea and make a decision to do my best and make it a good day.
In our house, wings are a good go-to dinner idea because they are quick and not that formal. Plus if we’re watching a movie, or just hanging around on the deck, these are great. In our house, there really doesn’t seem to be a better way to countdown to a holiday than watching holiday-themed movies. Halloween is definitely on that theme list! Chris and I loved making some popcorn, hot apple cider, and watching a scary movie together…but that kinda changed when Wendy was born. Somehow I don’t think watching the original Chucky movie with Wendy would be in the top parenting ideas of the year. So we had to start finding movies that were kid-friendly for Halloween countdowns.Read More
I can’t believe it’s October already. This year is flying and I mean flying. I feel like it was just yesterday that we brought Wendy home from the hospital and were trying to figure out this whole mom thing…still working it. As I work on that, I’ve noticed that the days have now become cooler and I’m ready to cozy my way into my blanket with a hot drink. Since Chris loves juices, I figured why not make a hot apple cider with spices.Read More
So up until a few years ago, I was not a fan of brussel sprouts…not surprising, I’m generally not the kind of person who prioritizes her veggies, especially when there are carbs on my plate, but I’m slowly changing that.
