Disney Touches on our Wedding Day

Wow it’s crazy how quickly this year is flying by, it’s already JUNE!! Wedding season is in full gear, well not for me. Chris and I will be celebrating our 2nd anniversary on June 21st! Two wonderful and beautiful years of marriage. But I totally remember what it was like planning our day. If you’re like me then it’s a must to add a little pixie dust to your magical day. That’s exactly what Chris and I did. We wanted our wedding day to be a true reflection of us, from handmade favours to homemade pies, to candy bowls on each table. Everything was handpicked by us. Since the Disney Parks seem to be our go-to family vacation, although if you ask Chris he would love to see Sandals take that title, we had to include Disney touches to our day.

A lot of people ask us why we love going to the Disney Parks so much, so I put together the above video to show you a glimpse of the magic we experience at the Parks.

If I’m being entirely honest with you, the Disney Parks, well the whole Disney experience means something special to me. Read More

Hello fellow Star Wars nerds,

May the 4th be with you all on this most force-ful of days. I hope you guys are enjoying your day so far. I’m currently sitting at a resort cafe in Punta Cana. It’s pretty wickedly awesome, if I do say so myself. The weather is hot, the company is amazing, and I can’t wait until later day when we get to see two very deserving people tie the knot down here.

I don’t know about you, but the Star Wars films are definitely on my top favourite film list of all time. I also love that Disney took over the franchise and gave it new life to a whole new generation, mind you the originals are brilliant and I believe every generation can fall in love with them. Not only are they memorable, these movies are so quotable. Chris and I use the following ALL…THE….TIME.

See totally quotable and also funny.  Anyone can love these films. I guarantee that our little Padawan will be exposed at a very young age to Star Wars….and exposed to the hatred we share for JarJar Binks – “let the hate run through you…” Actually, if I really think about it, Baby Banks has already been exposed to our love of Star Wars, Chris and I ran the RunDisney Star Wars – Dark Side 5k a few weeks ago, Baby Banks already has a few onesies with Yoda on them, some star wars socks, a Boba Fett picture frame for baby’s first photo and a number of other things. ALSO I can’t tell you how many times I have rematched the Force Awakens at my desk. I think we have our kid covered.

Anyways, I’ve rambled for far too long. So go out and grab a glass of blue milk, put on a Star Wars film, and practice your jedi skills today and let me know what your favourite Star Wars film or moment is.

How do you celebrate May the 4th?

Our Family is Growing

That’s right, we’re pregnant and this time it’s looking good. YAY!! I’m currently 18 weeks and it has been a little bit of a roller coaster to get here. If any of you remember, Chris and I lost our first last year on February 13, 2016 and the rest of 2015 was such a challenge. If you want to read about our first miscarriage, you can read about it here. After that miscarriage it just felt like such a struggle, I was dealing with a lot of other issues at the same time. I had become so unhealthy and stopped taking care of myself. Trying to pull myself out of the rut I had created for myself was one of the most difficult things I have ever had to do. To be honest, I’m still working on it but I’m a lot better. There were times last year, that I thought I was fighting a losing battle with myself. Focusing on just trying to conceive, throughout 2015, I became pregnant 6 times. We experienced 2 miscarriages and 4 chemical pregnancies. I probably wouldn’t have known about my chemical pregnancies if not for those early pregnancy tests; but my other 2 miscarriages, those were the hardest to deal with. Our first in February at 13 weeks (a missed miscarriage), and our second on November 13, 2015 at 8 weeks. All of my pregnancy losses were heartbreaking and I had begun to wonder if this whole baby thing would ever happen for Chris and I. Then after ringing in the brand new year, months of trying to keep up with my yoga practice, healthy-ish eating habits, and a lot of talk therapy, it happened.

You need to watch Zootopia! [Spoiler-Alert]

If you haven’t already watched Disney’s newest animated film, Zootopia, you need to. Chris and I ventured out to the locate movie house this weekend and enjoyed every minute of it. Even with its tough theme, it was such a wonderful, feel-good movie.  If you have been living under a rock for the last few months…and have no idea what the heck I’m talking about, you can check out the official trailer if you follow this link –> Zootopia Trailer!

I laughed, I cried,  and at moments I held on to Chris’ hand tighter ….yes I’m just a kid in a grown ups body…There were many things I adored about the film. For one, there is no couple-y romantic theme. It’s refreshing to see Disney starting to move away from the overbearing-make-me-puke romantic princess stories. The two main characters of the film, Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, are an amazing case-solving dual who build a strong friendship throughout the film. They have quickly become my favourite team of Disney pals. Judy Hopps is voiced by the very talented Ginnifer Goodwin (Once Upon a Time) and Nick Wilde is voiced by Jason Bateman (Couples Retreat). The voice talents could not have been picked better. These two worked perfectly.

If I’m being entirely honest, my favourite thing was the way Disney handled the topic of overcoming stereotypes and prejudice. This theme is made obviously clear from the very beginning of the film. Judy is a bunny who is determined to be a police officer. Her parents attempt to discourage her from pursuing her dream because they fear it’s dangerous and that bunnies don’t become police officers. Without spoiling too much, Judy does follow her dreams and is met with barriers along the way. However, even though Judy fights through to become the police officer she is later faced with the realization that she holds some damaging prejudices and stereotypes about other animals. This just goes to show that anyone can hold prejudices that they are not obviously aware of. Brilliant, right? I know it’s an old concept but considering what has been going on around the world, this film could not have come at a better time. The film handles prejudice and stereotypes in a way that both adults and kids can understand and appreciate.

What’s another reason I absolutely love this film, the soundtrack. Go ahead, I dare you to listen to Shakira’s ‘Try Everything’ and not break out your dance moves. I also know that the reason I love the soundtrack, especially that song is that it calls to me in some weird way. I am someone who wants to do everything. I love learning, I love new challenges and learning new skills. It’s fun and exciting and probably why I can’t seem to just pick one hobby or want just one career path. So put yourself out there, and be anything you want to be.

If the reasons above aren’t enough to convince you, you should check out the quality of the animation! Chris and I watched the film in 3-D and it was amazing. I actually forgot I was wearing those stupid 3-D glasses, which never happens.

So go get thee to a Movie House and watch this hilarious, touching, and thought-provoking film. You won’t be disappointed, trust me.
