Front Porch Makeover: One Room Challenge

It’s that time of year again when Chris and I pick one room in the house and transform it from top to bottom. This season’s One Room Challenge is all about our front porch. For years, we have really neglected the porch, mostly because it always seems incredibly overwhelming but this year we’ve decided to take on the challenge head on.

Front Porch, before the One Room Challenge

See what I mean, not pretty at all. The people who lived here before us had painted the house pink and brown, that’s right pink and poop brown…I have no idea why they thought that was a good idea but they did. So we are pretty much taking it all apart and building it back up. New door colour, new siding, new cement, the whole thing.

This is our second One Room Challenge this year and we are so excited! In the spring we redid our bathroom and it was a lot of work but also a lot of fun. Plus it’s so nice to sit in a soaker tub with a glass of wine and mood lighting.

So the plan is to paint the door a new colour, replace the broken screen door, pour new cement, put up new siding, and add seating and finishing touches. It doesn’t sound like much but it’s going to be a BIG undertaking. So stay tuned for the next 6 weeks.

Christmas decor through the years. It's really fu Christmas decor through the years. It's really fun to look back at the years and see my Christmas style evolve. I don't really do big themes that change from year to year. I find that rather wasteful, instead I focus on stories. Pieces that speak to us as a family, ornaments that tell a story either related to an experience or a nod to each of us as individuals. How do you decorate for Christmas?
